Calcite, Red Dome Mine, Mungana, Mareeba Shire, Queensland, Australia
Size: 4.4x4.x3.2cm
Species: Calcite
Locality: Red Dome Mine, Mungana, Mareeba Shire, Queensland, Australia
Description: The Red Dome mine is certainly famous among collectors world wide for its incredible cuprite specimens. However, a lesser known fact is that the mine also produced some very fine calcite specimens. Interestingly many of the specimens were nicely twinned such as this specimen. Really quite an impressive large miniature between the luster, translucency, twinning, and rare locality I believe this would be a great calcite even for the discerning collector. If you collect Australian minerals or calcites from around the world this would certainly be a great addition to your display.
