Cobaltoan Calcite and Malachite, Kakanda deposit, Lubudi, Lualaba, DR Congo
Size: 4.7 x 4.6 x 3.0
Mineral: Cobaltoan Calcite and Malachite
Locality: Kakanda deposit, Lubudi, Lualaba, DR Congo
Description: This specimen showcases stalactitic neon pink cobaltoan calcite is covered by sparkling malachite. Certainly the intense contrast between the two colors is quite dramatic. While many specimens merely feature a small sprinkling of malachite on the pink cobaltoan calcite, this specimen is nicely balanced between the two species. Although I have seen thousands of low grade specimens coming from this area or similar deposits in the Congo it is still quite uncommon to find a high quality specimen like this, especially with the stalactitic cobaltoan calcite. The locality is simply given as the Kakanda deposit even though there are several open pit mines in the are that have been used to mine the deposit. Comes with an original label from Schoolers Minerals. Please note the tips of 2 of the stalactite tips are slightly damaged otherwise the specimen would be priced much higher. Please feel free to request videos of the specimen via email at danzrockshop@gmail.com for further details.
