Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Quartz, Pyrite, Sunnyside Mine, San Juan Co., Colorado, USA
Size: 6.8x4.6x3.2 cm
Species: Rhodochrosite, Fluorite, Quartz, Pyrite
Locality: Sunnyside Mine, San Juan Co., Colorado, USA
Description: The specimen has a very aesthetic composition of white sparkling quartz with an spherical aggregate of pink rhodochrosite in the center. The mine is of course infamous for the disaster that occurred in 1978 when the mine working breached a lake above the mine causing a massive flood. The fast inflow of water and debries it carried with it surely would have killed anyone underground. Thankfully the disaster occurred on a Sunday when the miners were not working and no lives were lost. Ex. Mel Bersch
