Smithsonite, Yanga Koubenza, Bouenza Department, Republic of the Congo

$500.00

Size: 10.5x6.0x3.5cm

Species: Smithsonite with minor Cerussite

Locality: Yanga Koubenza, Bouenza Department, Republic of the Congo

Description: A bright blue smithsonite that is very reminiscent of the famous “Kelly Blue” that New Mexico is so well known for. This is a new find of smithsonite that is being produced from the Congo. The luster on these specimens and the color is absolutely fantastic. There is some damage due to the mining operations not being able to take much time to collect these specimens. As with many mines the cost to stop a hydraulic shovel from swinging or a haul truck from loading vastly exceeds the potential value of recovering pristine specimens. This is the reality that mineral collectors must contend with.
