Smoky Quartz w/ Specular Hematite, Hodbarrow Mine, Millom Copeland, Cumbria England, UK
Size: 6.0x4.5x3.3cm
Mineral: Smoky Quartz w/ Specular Hematite
Locality: Hodbarrow Mine, Millom Copeland, Cumbria England, UK
Description: This is a very unique and historical specimen. This specimen originates from the Hodbarrow mine which was one of the largest iron mines in West Cumbria and operated for about 120 years or so. However specimens of quartz and specular hemaite are not well known from this locality, making this a very odd specimen. This is a fairly well documented specimen with an original historic label from the Paris School of mines. The smoky quartz has nice inclusions of hematite, there are specular hematite blades and the back of the specimen is composed of massive hematite. Truly a unique specimen and a curiosity for a serious English mineral collector.
