Tourmaline, Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kivu, DR Congo
Size: 8.7x2.1x2.0cm 73.27gram
Mineral: Tourmaline
Locality: Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kivu, DR Congo
Description: A large multicolor specimens with vibrant colors grading bottom up from pink to yellow to green. This specimen is nice and gemmy for the size from this locality. The complex termination has wide glassy faces. Please note there is one chip on the back of the specimen.
For the past several decades the Congo has produced tourmalines from a number of localities (Laurs et al., 2004, Henn, 2010; Laurs 2015). Usually, these specimens were from weathered deposits produced as by products industrial mineral mining and were not of gem quality (The Journal of Gemology Volume 35 / No. 8 / 2017). Recently in the past several years there has been a concerted effort to specifically mine gem grade specimens in areas such as the Rubaya Pegmatite District. I am very happy to say that in my humble opinion Rubaya is now producing some of the finest contemporary tourmalines available on the market. The color, clarity, and sharp complex terminations are simply astonishing.
Please feel free to contact me for more photos or videos of the specimen.
